We study the structure, function, and resilience of watersheds and other ecosystems driven by freshwater. As water scarcity increases in arid regions and hydrologic regimes change throughout the world, the biodiversity and services these ecosystems support are under mounting pressure. Deep understanding of these ecosystems and how they are changing is critical to creating a more sustainable future.
Social and technological factors are integral to ecosystem processes in most contemporary and historic landscapes. We utilize interdisciplinary collaborations, community partnerships, and tools in system science to better understand these interactions and find leverage points for change.
